Mumbai: SportsSkill has secured a lead investment from existing investor Nirav Mody for its newly launched venture, SportsSkill Ladder, a technology-enabled platform aimed at organizing community-driven competitive sports through a structured ladder-based ranking system.

The investment marks an expanded commitment from Mody, who was among the early backers of SportsSkill. He has increased his stake to serve as Lead Investor in SportsSkill Ladder, a newly registered LLP focused on building scalable sports communities across multiple disciplines.

India’s sports and fitness participation continues to rise, with an estimated 23% of the population, or over 300 million people, actively engaged in sports and related activities. Industry projections indicate that the sports technology market could reach ₹49,500 crore (USD 5.70 billion) by FY29, growing at a compound annual growth rate of 13%. The broader sports and fitness goods market is also expected to expand steadily over the next decade.

Despite increasing participation and government support under initiatives such as the National Sports Policy 2025 and Khelo India, community-level competitive sports remain fragmented. Recreational players often lack access to structured competition, transparent rankings, and measurable progression systems.

SportsSkill Ladder seeks to address this gap by enabling players to create customized ladders within societies, clubs, and private groups, allowing structured match play and skill-based rankings across racquet sports, team sports, and individual competitive formats. The beta version of the platform is currently live on Android and iOS.

Chetan Desai, Co-founder of SportsSkill, said the platform is designed to bring structure and transparency to grassroots competitive sports. “Community sports in India have significant participation but limited organized competitive frameworks. SportsSkill Ladder allows players to create their own ladders, build verified communities, and track rankings in a structured manner. Securing continued support from Nirav strengthens our ability to scale responsibly,” he said.

Abhinav Sinha, Co-founder of SportsSkill, stated that the beta platform focuses on solving long-standing challenges faced by recreational athletes, including inconsistent competition and fragmented community engagement. He added that the investment will accelerate product refinement and preparation for a broader rollout.

Nirav Mody said structured competitive ecosystems are essential for sustained sports participation. “SportsSkill Ladder introduces a scalable, technology-led framework that allows players to build communities and compete consistently with transparent rankings. Having observed the founding team’s execution capabilities firsthand, I believe the platform addresses a clear gap in India’s community sports ecosystem,” he said.
